Fulwell Traders' Association

showcasing some of Sunderland's best Independent businesses.

The Sea Road and Fulwell Traders Association was born in 2016 by some of the local traders and business owners wanted to enhance the local shopping areas for the mutual benefit of their business and the local community.   The primary objectives of the association are to ensure that the Sea Road and Fulwell shopping areas is a safer, cleaner and more enjoyable place shop and relax.

It will surprise many residents, that there are over 100 businesses from the Seaburn Metro station to Fulwell Junior School and covering Fulwell Road to Dovedale road area.   Generally, the businesses in the area tend to be unique independent traders who rely on the income to support their family, rather than the big corporation organisation which you find on high streets and retails parks.  You will find that the owners are very knowledgeable and passionate about their products and services and will often go above and beyond to help their customers because of the sense of loyalty they bring to the area.  This is what makes our association very unique and delivers a special place to shop for the resident of Fulwell and surrounding areas.

Around one thirds of the business are members of the association, however this is growing all the time.  Each one of our active members pay a small financial subscription every month.  This money is designated for the benefit of the community as the association makes no profit.  A lot of our work goes unnoticed and is often assumed to be completed by the council.

Here is a list benefits we have delivered in your local area so far :

  • Installed and maintenance of a community defibrillator on the wall of OneStop for the benefit of the whole community.
  • Installation of six additional rubbish bins in the Sea Road shopping area to help keep it clean and tidy.
  • Advertising signs advertising the shopping precinct on the green opposite the library and on Charlton bank to help advertise and promote the area.
  • Delivery of plants and planters to the area to make the area as whole more enjoyable and brighter place to shop.
  • Installation and maintenance of permanent CCTV cameras system covering most of the main shopping areas ensuring the safety of customers and residents day and night.
  • Contributing to the dressing of the lampposts with Christmas lights bringing festive cheers to the area for the first time ever.
  • Contributing to the annual Christmas decoration and Christmas tree over the past 7 years which located outside the Fulwell Library.
  • Actively engaging with stakeholder such as Fulwell Library CIC, Police, City of Sunderland Council, and local Councilors to promote change and enhancement ideas to the area.

You will see from our successes above that the community is really feeling the benefits from the association. The active members who have made this happen are shown on this website, so please spend a little time to visit their page to fully understand what is already available on your doorstep.  Please be supportive to all of your local traders as without them the community spark may be lost.
