Nearly 90 years of experience!

Founded in 1932 by Jack Maxwell, a cabinet maker, who opened a small shop in Durham City. Expansion resulted in a move to Sunderland in 1946, where he rebuilt bomb-damaged premises in Vine Place.

As the family business grew, Jack’s son, John Donald Maxwell – known as Don – took over the management of the business in the mid-sixties, and started to expand the company with more branches opening over the next couple of decades; first in Jarrow, then Fulwell, and on to both South and North Shields, Newcastle, Gateshead, and Birtley.
